Gem-Knights Weak?

Post by Leaferson on Wed Sep 05, 2012 2:58 pm

Yes, I love the Gem-Knights with all of my heart and I love to play with them. But I think they are sadly too weak. =( They are only a tier 3 even though I have made a great deck with them and I usually win when I'm not in DA. Example, I defeated a Dark World yesterday, which was fun. But again, I don't think they are strong enough for tournaments or anything like that.

So I was planning of making the deck type that got me to play Yugioh, a Chaos Dragon Deck. I think I have a pretty great formula already but I'm not sure. Right now I can't post it cause I'm at school... xP

But, I'm just unsure if I should start a new type of deck just because my favorite is weak.

I love my Morphs/Verz/Puppets/Crystal beasts, but when it comes down to it, some of them aren't good enough. If you're looking to play on a more competitive level, then it's no bad thing making a new deck for that purpose. After all, it's not like you're deleting the old deck for good.

In tournaments i've tried using my favorite deck, Crystalbundance, and i've always managed to scrape through the first round, but it comes down to the simple fact that alot of decks are better, and they stomp you. So I started playing more meta, for fun and competitive purposes, but I still play my cb's all the time, as I said, it's not like you're deleting the deck forever. Plus, I don't see a rule anywhere saying each duelist is limited to one deck.

Another plus of playing more competitive decks, I.E Chaos dragons, is you learn there playstyle, meaning that if you were to face them with Gem-Knights, you'd be more aware of what they were capable of, what plays they were making, and what counters them.

Only problem is, this banlist hit Chaos Dragons quite hard, with the limit of Metal and Sorcerer. But that doesn't mean they're not viable still, just be aware they might be weaker then when you first played them.

So overall, sure, go ahead and make a new deck, heck, go ahead and make 5 new decks, each one will help you grow as a duelist and learn more about the game. Hope I helped ^^

Yeah, this really does help. I will NEVER get rid of my Gem-Knights lol I love them too much. I will for sure use my Gem-Knights a lot because they are just really fun to play with, and that's what Yugioh was meant for, right? Now Yugioh is getting really competitive and decks are becoming really strong, so I guess I better keep up with them if I'm ever going to move up at least to Ra.

I'm still debating if I should use a Chaos Dragon deck or just a Dragon deck, but I love thier game-play as well. I'll just see how it goes.

Later on today, can I duel you so I can have some practice with my new deck? =) See if it's good enough? Lol

Ehh, i'd say default dragons are probably alot better these days, they can utilize ravine alot more, and aren't as dependent on Metal. Then again, I never really played straight up dragons myself, I just know from experience that they can do really well, specially when they get a dragunity play off. As I said, you can make both, theres nothing stopping you, and then you can decide which you prefer!

Sure, if i'm on we can duel later, i'm fine with that.

I probably will go with just Dragons. They seem really strong. Dragunitys are really strong if you can use them right. My friend runs dragunitys but I usually beat him actually with my Real Life Chaos deck. I'm going to see what I can do.

Yayz xD Lol Do you want to duel with DN or YGOPro Percy? I always end up with a better hand on that Percy program. xD

Your friend ain't using them right then x.x

If you are gonna end up building dragunity I can help you with them, cause dragunities are what I know best (espically with all the different varients I have of them )

Well he only has like 1 really good combo and he doesn't have any good cards. Only the starter deck and 1 sync. Again, I'm not sure if I do want the Dragunity or not, I'll see what kind of dragons there are and see what I can make of it.

That would explain it then ._. he is missing the vital cards for a good dragunity deck :/

Tell him to get 3 x phalanx, 3 x dux, 2-3x legio, 2-3x aklys, 3 x vaj, a radnom level 6 synchro, 2-3 random level 5 synchs, random level 8 synchs

But anyway for a dragon deck the following types ar gonna be the best this format most likely

disaster dragon (the vareints that dont focus on REDMD), dragunity (although this deck is really less then helf dragons), chaos dragon, and hieratic (sure otk is dead but they can still spam rank 8s)

With what your thinking of I think will be to slow to actually be competitive :/

Do disaster instead, its basicly a better version of hopeless.

http://yugioh.wikia.com/wiki/Disaster_Dragon

That will give you all the vareints, but do note that alot of the varients are dead or weak do to FF getting banned and REDMD getting limited :/

I remember about 2 years ago when heroes and glad beasts were the best decks.... now that syncro and Xyz are around its almost impossible to do fusions anymore, half the cards either negate spells or destroy monsters now......... this game has become a money pit unless ur using Dn ....

@Mimgrim
I'll have to study on that. I'm sure I can think of some good deck, even with the limitation of REDMD.

@Anthony
Yeah, it really does suck. 3= Cards have gotten way too powerful if you ask me. xP It's kinda unbalancing the whole game.

@Ikiba
Yeah, back then I've watched Yugioh players play with those guys and they kicked butt hard! Yeah. =( It's sad that the first extra deck in the whole game is being replaced with xyz or synchs. Honestly, it's sad what the game has became... and I agree, it has gotten way too expensive.

@Juelz Gladiator Beast decks can still be surprisingly powerful this slow format.

@Ikiba HEROs (specifically, Bubble Beat and HERO Beat) are still high in course and are still very much powerful.
I believe HEROs to win some big events this format.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind trying out a Gladiator Beast deck. I love how they can switch each other from the decks to make the deck very expandable of what situation you're at.

A few months ago I got WIPED by a Gladiator Beast deck. But everytime I play a friend with a HERO deck, they ALWAYS get bad hands for some reason. 3=

Gem-Knights are nowhere near weak. They're not top tier, but you can make them T2 pretty easily.

imo, if you play what you love you'll always have a fighting chance.
(Assuming you built the deck right.)

When you play a deck you really like, you're instinctively more comfortable with the deck. Meaning you'll most likely play better imo.

gem knights are kinda simmilar to Heroes ( in my opinion) I HAD a Gem deck before .... suggested cards Necro guardna ( remove from play from grave to negate 1 attack)
Elemental hero prisma ... pretty obvious card right?

Necro Gardna is a no. No way for you to get him to the grave effectively. But Prisma might be a good idea.

I know you can make a good Gem-Knight deck. You may want to try using Rescue Rabbit in the deck, since Gem-Knights focus on normal monsters.

I made a kick-ass Gusto-Tele deck, and I was told Gustos suck. Just keep trying and you'll get it right

I already have Prisma and 2 copies of Rescue Rabbit in my deck. =) But I need a card to help me pull out Gem-Knight Fusion, without it, I'm nothing. I do have the Xyz monster Lavalval Chain to help put Gem-Knight Fusion into the graveyard and just get it out of the graveyard by banishing 1 Gem-Knight. But it's sometimes hard to get him because it's hard to keep 2 Gem-Knights alive or to draw Rescue Rabbit to summon the 2 Gem-Knights.

Any suggestions?

Are you trying to mill Gem-Knight Fusion monsters with Lavalval Chain?
If so, you cannot.

I also think that there is a Trap Card that is a Fusion. I'm not all too sure about that, though.

If in the event you do get a gem-knight fusion monster out, and you either fusion with it again, or it gets TT'd or something like that. Try out the spell card "Re-Fusion" It's essentially a Premature Burial, except it only works on fusion monsters.

Re: Gem-Knights Weak?

@Irate
I thought it might have been a good idea (Not mill my fusion monsters, but mill my normal Gem-Knights and Gem-Knight Fusion so I can pull it out quicker). My deck is almost nothing without Gem-Knight fusion. There is a trap card to do so but it leaves the field at the end phase. I do like to use it to fusion summon Aquamarine because when he leaves the field, I can return 1 card to the owners hand, which can be useful.

@MissSaucy
Yeah, I do fusion summon Gem-Knight fusions monsters with another fusion summon. Hmmm, sounds like a good idea for Re-Fusion. I'll probably add that card.

I actually might add powerful Aqua, Thunder, or Pryo type monsters in my deck sense some fusions only require any Gem-Knight monster and one of those types. So with this, I might add Thunder King Rai-Oh and Snowman Eater. With those fusions, it will make level 7 fusions, then if I could, Xyz summon Number 11: Big Eye to take control of my opponents monsters. Good ideas?
