[OCG] Pendulum Summons, New Mechanics, and Arc-V News!

It’s that time of the month again.

The site may be jumping, but we are still going!




‘Major Rule Changes Coming TO THE OCG:

The player going first cannot draw on the first turn!

Both players can both have a Field Spell Card on the field, simultaneously!

The text for Official Card Game cards will be made easier to read!

You can note that the cards from the new Starter Deck have their effects numbered.

These new rules take effect for the Official Card Game starting March 21st, 2013, when the Starter Deck comes out!

Hoshiyomi no Majutsushi (Astromancy Magician)
Dark Spellcaster / Pendulum / Effect
Pendulum Scale 1
LV5 1200/2400
Spell Effect: If your Pendulum Monster battles, your opponent cannot activate Spell Cards until the end of the damage step. If your other Pendulum Zone does not have a “Majutsushi” card or “Odd-Eyes” card, this card’s Pendulum Scale becomes 4.
Monster Effect: Once per turn, when 1 Pendulum Monster you control is returned to your hand by your opponent’s card effect: You can Special Summon 1 monster with the same Level from your hand.

Spell Effect: If you control no monsters you can activate this card. If your Pendulum Monster battles, your opponent cannot activate Trap Card until the end of the Damage Step. Monster Effect: While this card is in your Monster Card Zone, once per turn cards in your Pendulum Zone cannot be destroyed by your opponent’s card effects.

This card can attack your opponent directly. If this card is sent from the field to the Graveyard: You can target 1 Dragon-Type/Spellcaster-Type/Warrior-Type Normal Monster in your GTraveyard; add that monster t your hand.



Byakko no Shoukanshi (White Tiger Summoner)
Earth Spellcaster / Effect
LV3 1000/1700
1: When this card is Normal Summoned, you can activate this effect. Special Summon 1 Level 4 or lower Normal Monster from your hand. 2: Whiel this card is in your Monster Card Zone, your monsters gain 100 ATK and DEF.

(This is not a clear explaination of how the mechanic works, please wait for further details to explain it.)
1. There are two new Pendulum Zones on the field
2. There are new Pendulum Monsters with “Scales” to the left and right of the card (the red and blue things)
You can place them in the Pendulum Zones, if you do they becomes Spells instead of monsters
differnet pendulum monsters have different scale numbers
3. Once you have 1 pendulum monster in each p zone, you can perform a pendulum summon
you take the numbers between the two scale numbers, in this case 1 and 8, so 2-7
4. In this turn with this pendulum summon you can summon any number of monsters from your hand and face-up pendulum monsters from your extra deck that are of levels 2-7
and you can only do this one time, so you can’t summon something now, draw some, and then summon some more later
in the same turn
also when pendulum monsters die you can play them face-up in your extra deck
when you perform a pendulum summon you can summon 1 of them from your extra

What the actual fuck.

On pendulum summon.

Also, the new rules... yikes. I don't get how that is going to balance the game, but it's going to suck for a lot of decks out there. The field thing is going to be messy.

I don't know what's up with any of this. The game is going to be upside down for a while.

Pendulum Monsters have a scale going from left to right. You need 2 Pendulum Monsters in order to complete a scale, with the scale beginning with the left value of the left card and ending with the right value of the right card. The 2 Pendulum Monsters that make up the scale are treated as Spell cards while they make up the scale (and can probably activate their Spell effects).
Then you somehow Pendulum Summon (some particular/any) monsters who's Level fall inbetween the begin and end values of the scale.

The first two rules are annoying.

5 cards only is a disadvantage and having one field only was a sneaky way to kill field spells that can't be otherwise killed by card effects like rainbow ruins or seal of Ori.

The summoning seems confusing but I'll actually wait to see it then judge it.

If it wasn't for Gianus I wouldn't know what any of this meant. Seriously, what the fuck.

Also the other "balancing" rules are going to cause quite a stir around here. Decks that depend on their field spell will get quite the advantage now, like Madolche and Ghostrick.

If we can summon regular monsters by pendulum summon and it's essentially a big swarm mechanic, as well as the whole field thing, I could see fun things happening with my ojamas lel.

THink about this... normal summon, country special summon, pendulum summon... that's 3 ojamas. One turn. So black, green and yellow could all be summoned in one turn without any real external aid. That sounds enjoyable (LAZER BLAAAAAH), especially when only an MST (really) could get rid of my country.

I think I may enjoy these rule changes. Also, start going second now so you can say you did it before it was cool.

The game is pretty swarmy as it is. I can't imagine how this would affect both synchro summons and exceed summons-- wait, I can.

Well, we still don't quite exactly know what this is so we also are not sure about the usage of the Pendulum Monsters and Summons (seriously, everything I've stated in my last comment is EVERYTHING we currently know for sure).
We still don't know if Pendulum Summons can be performed on any monster or just some type of monster that specifically says it can be, whether it is a Special or an extra Normal Summon (which might, or might not help Spirit decks, counter or help Decks utilising stuff like Vanity's Emptiness), and basically anything that anyone states besides the things listed in my previous comment are nothing but speculations.
So yeah...

Regular monsters will be pendulum summonable because


Masou Seiryuu Iiselweapon
LIGHT/Dragon
Level 6
2300/1600
When this card is Pendulum Summoned: you can target 1 card on the field;. Return it to its owner’s hand.The effect of “Masou Seiryuu Iiselweapon” can only used once per turn.

Standard effect monster. Has an effect that works when it's pendulum summoned. Therefore is pendulum summonable but does not specify that it can be.

JJ, that was my thought exactly when I saw that dragon. It seems like any card can be pendulum summoned. This makes higher level cards somewhat more playable, but swarming will be inevitable and really hardcore.

It should be interesting. Cards with a high right pendulum value will be really valuable, as level 7s will be really easy to summon. It should add a swarm mechanic that will be quite nasty.


I'd like to think it'll have some disadvantage though. It seems too easy to do and pendulums swing. You push one towards someone else and it comes back and smacks itself in the face.

Remember when I was right about people posting unsourced nonsense about "Arc Vs"? Maybe I'll be right about this too. This just seems too easy.

That's right. We'll have to wait and see. Although the current system described here has some potential for both making the game take a fresh breath of air or completely throw it into madness. I like the odds here.

I somehow hope there's more (or less) to this though.
